The turning direction and the 10 PSI note in the pictures are examples for that product and situation. Check the recommended pressure marked on your board and your product manual first.

Taking out the board, connecting the pump, and packing it back into the bag after your ride. Learning just a few habits makes getting ready much easier every time. We've put Starboard HQ's valve picture and care tips together here.

01. Check the valve before you connect the pump

The valve picture shows pin UP as the inflate position and pin DOWN as the deflate position. Before connecting, check that your board uses this type, and follow the manual for the product you're using.

The direction you turn the valve and how it locks can differ from one piece of gear to another. This guide doesn't apply the same turning direction to every product. Check the recommended pressure marked on your actual board, too.

02. After washing, let it dry completely

The original says to wash the board with fresh water and mild soap after use. Clear off dirt and salt as your product's instructions say, then let it dry thoroughly before storing it.

Storing it wet for a long time can lead to mold. Adding one more step, check that it's dry, before “put it in the bag” makes it easy to remember.

03. Avoid hot sun and damp storage

Even during breaks, it's best not to leave the board in strong direct sunlight for long. Store it away from heat and humidity, in a place that fits the product's instructions.

Even when storing it inflated, rather than picking a pressure yourself, check your board's latest storage instructions first. Advice can differ by model and construction, even among inflatable boards.

04. Seven habits for gear that lasts

Small actions add up, like carrying the board instead of dragging it on the ground, and checking its condition before putting it in the bag. If it's been in storage for a long time, check the gear's condition before using it again.

  • Clean with fresh water and a mild cleaner suited to the product
  • Dry thoroughly after use and before storage
  • Don't leave it in strong direct sunlight for long
  • Store away from heat and humidity
  • Don't inflate with a regular air compressor
  • Don't drag the board over sharp ground
  • Take it out regularly to use and check it

The illustrations are Starboard HQ's two original infographics on the valve and on care; the explanation is Starboard Korea's commentary. The turning direction in the pictures and the 10 PSI note for sunny conditions apply to the product and situation in those originals; they aren't figures that apply to every board. Your actual valve and each product's recommended pressure and care instructions come first.
