How to Read a Forecast
SUP surfing — Wave Height Is Only Part of the Picture
Read wave height (m), period (seconds) and direction together. Offshore model wave height is not the same as the height of breaking waves at a beach. Even at the same forecast height, period, wind, terrain and tides can change local conditions.
Wing foiling — Read Wind Speed, Gusts and Direction Together
Compare average wind speed, gusts and changes over time. 1 m/s is approximately 1.94 kt. Assess whether the wind blows offshore relative to the local coastline; suitable wind conditions depend on equipment, rider weight and experience.
Check Forecast Times and Local Conditions
Check the date, time zone, forecast model and units on the original forecast. Forecasts are not observations and do not guarantee local conditions. Before setting off, check KMA advisories, access restrictions and guidance from local operators.
