THE LEGACY
The infamous ACE race board from Starboard was an industry-first design that reimagined the downwind raceboard design. First produced as a 12’6” SUP Race board and debuting at the Battle of the Paddle in 2009, the ACE (originally named “The NEW”) was available in many iterations and sizes from 12’6” – 14’0” models between 2009 – 2021. In 2025 the ACE has been reborn in a brand new size range, for the latest downwind innovation: Downwind SUP Foiling.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE SHAPE?
Featuring the iconic pin-tail design, the Ace Foil is designed for fast take offs and easy paddling in downwind conditions. Its teardrop outline, flat deck, and recessed standing area provide a stable, connected feel over the foil. The Ace Foil range also excels as a crossover board for both wing and paddle performance.
ACE FOIL vs ACE FOIL LIGHTNING
Both the Ace Foil and Ace Lightning models share the same shape but differ in size scaling. The Ace Lightning is longer and narrower, reducing drag and extending the waterline for faster glide and earlier takeoff—ideal for flat-water and downwind SUP foiling or racing. In contrast, the Ace Foil is slightly shorter and wider, offering a more agile and playful flight with greater maneuverability in both downwind conditions and waves. Its compact design helps limit catching during turns while extra width ensures stability. In short, the Ace Lightning is optimized for speed, while the Ace Foil excels in agility and control.

Boxy rails reduce overall width without sacrificing stability, while a parallel midsection provides predictable, straight-line tracking.

NEW CARBON D2
ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT PERFORMANCE
Carbon D2 is the lightest performance construction in the range, reducing board weight for faster acceleration, earlier lift onto foil and efficient flight.
Unlike XTEC constructions that use expanding epoxy resin, Carbon D2 uses a traditional epoxy lamination to minimize weight while maintaining structural strength.
On the Take Off, an additional PVC standing area is integrated to improve impact resistance during freestyle jumping and wave riding.
- Semi-Custom Traditional epoxy lamination for reduced weight
- Additional Carbon standing reinforcements for stiffness and responsiveness
- PVC standing area reinforcement (Take Off) for impact resistance during jumps
